On Friday, November 22, Kendrick Lamar released a brand new album, titled GNX. This album had no prior rollout, simply an instagram post, announcing the project was on streaming services. However, is the shock drop worth a listen?
In my opinion, absolutely. The album is a fun, creative light hearted album that feels like a mixtape. Every time I listen, I find a new song that I enjoy more than the last time. The tracks all feel very relaxed and as if you are taking a day through Los Angeles with Kendrick Lamar himself.
The features on the album add to the songs perfectly including SZA on the track Luther, a fan favorite debuting at number 3 on the billboard hot 100. Kendrick has every song in the top 5 on the billboard as well as numbers 9 and 10 giving him an astounding 7 of the top 10 songs of the week.
Overall, the new Kendrick Lamar album is a refreshing new drop for listeners of hip-hop and rap in general. A very great album to relax to or enjoy great production. This album would be a fantastic intro to new listeners of Kendrick Lamar’s music, the album only being 40 mins, it’s in my contention for rap album of the year, and I would highly recommend anyone to listen to it.
