As many know, March is women’s history month. While it’s common to reflect and honor the historic women of the past, it’s also important to take the time to appreciate the amazing women of right now. At LHS there are so many women on the staff who put in so many hard working hours to improve the school. From counselors to teachers to coaches, they all care deeply about their students and helping them improve. All the women teachers at LHS deserve to be honored during this month, but here are a few who do a lot for the school and who the students love.
A common quality in all good teachers is the ability to connect with their students. This is something that Tiffany Fisher does really well.
“She is really a person I find it comfortable to talk to if I need anything.” Junior Lillian Grover says, “she is just a welcoming figure.”
She works in the language arts department and is the school yearbook advisor. Fisher started at LHS as a student teacher in 2011 and has been working in the building ever since.
“It’s easy to connect with the kids here,” Fisher tells us, “I love teaching all the different groups.”
Beloved chemistry teacher, Leslie Fotopulos, is a student favorite because of her kindness and the grace that she gives on assignments. Foto, as the students call her, has been teaching at Littleton since 2003.
“The students are all different from each other and people get along.” says Foto on why she enjoys teaching here. She enjoys how it’s not “one size fits all.”
Deanna Koepke is a big part of the Littleton community. As a language arts teacher and beloved coach of Poms, she has made quite the impact. This year, she coached the Poms to one of their best seasons in years. Koepke is also the Academic Game Plan and state assessment coordinator. Koepke loves teaching at this school because of the opportunities. She also enjoys seeing the kids get involved in so many things. One thing she recalled is when she was presenting at graduation and got to read off all the names and get to read what the graduates were involved in.
Even though Koepke enjoys teaching, nothing can beat how much she enjoys Poms. “It is the best part of my day. They are just such amazing focused women.” says Koepke about Poms.
Overall, it is no wonder that Koepke is one of the favorite teachers.
The female teachers in our math department are especially loved by their students and really do a lot for the school. From Rachel Ockner to Sara Bents, they all work hard to help improve their students’ knowledge of math.
Bents works in Littleton High School’s math department. She loves all of her kids and all of her kids love her.
“She’s really funny and just makes the classroom more lively and fun to learn.” said sophomore Sophia Rodriguez, smiling, recalling her favorite female teacher.
Bents goes to the moon and beyond to help her students improve and LHS would be at a loss without her here.
Ilana Neenan, a teacher in our math department, helps her students improve no matter their skill level. Students love her for all different reasons.
“She is really nice and helpful,” says sophomore Maddie Meier.
She works hard to show empathy and remorse to her students and understands they have lives outside of school. Mrs. Neenan likes working here at Littleton High School for many reasons. She thinks the students here are very kind, interesting, diverse, and willing to learn. She loves this about them and her work.
Among our administrators there are so many women who help improve the school. Grady Beach, a counselor at the school is one of these women. This is her second year at the school. She chose LHS over other schools because she knew she wanted to work with high schoolers.
When asked what she loves about the students she said “I have a lot of answers to this.”
Beach told us about how she loves how unique each student is and how the combination of things they could be involved in is endless. She likes her specific job because she gets to see the student outside of the classroom and hear everything they are passionate about. She hears how these things bring them stress and still they find it worth it to do.
In her final comnets of her interviews she said “I’m always very refreshed working with the students here.”
To all the women teachers and staff working in our building, thank you for all you do to improve the school. LHS would not be the same without you!
