As the pandemic rages on here in the US, local businesses have been hit hard this past year. Places like restaurants, bars, and retail spaces, in particular, have been wounded by the loss of consumerism as a result of the pandemic, and many of our prized local businesses here in Colorado have fallen into bankruptcy.

So how do we combat this in order to keep our favorite places open?

Poke Story in The Streets of Southglenn

Well, the answer is simple, be a proactive member in your community by spending money at local businesses instead of chains and recommend those places to other people. Not only is this easy, but it’s also contact-free, as businesses can ship their products to your house using their own websites or programs like Grubhub. You can also recommend those businesses to your friends and family through text limiting the amount of contact between you and others. For example, the restaurant Poke Story, located in the Streets of SouthGlenn, has been doing a great job with their contactless orders by using Grubhub to ship their food to customers’, and has a loyal customer base due to their great service.

Across the street, Land of Sushi is another highly recommended small business, although it’s quite expensive, the food is extremely fresh and the chiefs mix together an assortment of different flavors that complement the fish in each dish. Currently, they are only doing take-out, as indoor seating is prohibited, thankfully the take-out is every bit as delectable as the food that was brought to you inside the restaurant.

Outdoor shopping malls, like Southglenn, are also great places to hunt for local and small businesses. Aspen Grove in particular has a collection of great shops, some of which are family-owned, like the cupcake bakery 303bakes (originally named Gigi’s cupcakes).

The other way to help local businesses during this time period is to be active on social media and watch for small online businesses on your “for-you page.” This is because many small, quality businesses can be found on Instagram. Following those businesses increases their publicity which results in good reviews, depending on how many loyal followers or customers they attract. So instead of getting your food at chains like Dunkin Donuts or Chipotle try to discover new restaurants and support your community by assisting your local businesses.
