Hubie Halloween, released on October 7, 2020, directed by Steven Brill and starring Adam Sandler is a funny, family-friendly Halloween movie that features many celebrities like Noah Schnapp, Kevin James, Shaquille O’Neal, and Rob Schneider.
Hubie Dubois played by Adam Sandler, is a soup loving, thermos yielding, middle aged nerd who lives with his mom in Salem, Massachusetts. Halloween is the one night a year when Hubie takes action and protects his town from monsters, candy snatchers, and pranksters although he is easily spooked. With a suspicious new neighbor and a psychopath on the loose, Hubie must solve the mysterious disappearances of the town bullies and save Halloween!
Throughout the movie, Hubie is called names, picked on, used as a literal target, and bullied. Hubie chooses to care for others more than himself and is constantly finding himself in positions where he’s trying to keep safe the very people who are mean to him. The movie provides a valuable lesson… “true bravery is being kind.”
I loved this movie. It makes Halloween seem normal and the world less crazy during these weird times. Adam Sandler puts on a funny, cringey, and sweet performance that brings a warm feeling while watching. As always, Adam Sandler doesn’t fail to put a smile on your face and make you laugh out loud. Curling up with a fuzzy blanket, a bowl of candy corn, and my fluffy dog was the perfect way to watch this spooky movie. Netflix users, I highly encourage you to take a day and watch this hilarious Halloween film.
