Last night, LHS’ Jazz Band had an excellent winter concert, wowing listeners as per usual.
The band performed at 7:00pm for the extended LHS community, playing an animated compilation of various jazz tunes. The night’s performance also featured a performance from the Newton jazz band. Working together middle schoolers and high schoolers played a lively rendition of Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk.
“It was pretty cool to play with the Newton kids because they’re good for their age, and remind [us high schoolers] in the band of ourselves in middle school,” comments senior Nick Zirkle.
Nick was among several others who had solos last night, contributing some artistic innovation to each piece. “I just tried to have fun while playing it and I think it worked,” said Zirkle, reflecting on his solo.
Solos were interspersed throughout the performance, giving individuals the chance to showcase their talents which usually serve to enhance those of the group. And, of course, when their solos were over, the musicians reunited with the band.
