Prom is quickly approaching, and students at LHS are starting to get excited for this highly anticipated night. Last week in seminar the invitations went out for Juniors and Seniors. This year the theme will be Roaring 20’s, and after prom will be “No Place Like Home” themed, inspired by Wicked. Like every year, some students dress to the theme, and will surely be wearing their Gatsby inspired formal wear, while others will just wear what they prefer.
A lot of students already have their prom attire, and I’ve seen some trends in styles for this year. These are the prom styles that we are anticipating this year.
Colors
When prom dress shopping this season, we can see a lot of colors gaining popularity that haven’t necessarily been worn a lot in the past years. I’ve noticed an increase in yellows and purples this year, when in the past those are some of the colors I would see the least.
Patterns
Similarly to colors, I’ve noticed a lot of similar patterns this year for dresses. We’re seeing a lot of florals, specifically blue and white. The dresses so far this year are similar to last year’s “brunch dresses” pattern wise, but are more extravagant when it comes to the actual dresses.
Silhouettes
Like every year, we see a variety of dress silhouettes. This goes entirely based on preference. Some will choose a tight fitting dress, while others prefer a more ballgown-esque style. For both ends of the scale, I’ve seen a lot of corsets this year. Many dresses have a tight, corset top, and flare out into a bigger skirt, much like the “Sherri Hill” brand. I’ve also seen a lot of more casual dresses, like something you might wear to attend a wedding. Pleated skirts and drop waist dresses also seem to be common this year.
Suits
Like prom dresses, suits also give you an opportunity to express your personal style. I’ve seen a lot of classic black suits this year, as well as a lot of brighter colors. Many people coordinate their suits or ties to match with their date, for a simple and classy look.
Clearly, there’s a lot of similarities, but also a lot of variety in prom attire. Regardless of what the trends are, everyone can find something that matches their different styles, and hopefully will find something that is exactly what they’re hoping for. We look forward to seeing what all the Lions wear at the LHS Prom, coming up soon on May 3rd.
