LHS board meeting proposes financial literacy as a graduation requirement

A recent Littleton High School board meeting discussed a variety of classes being added and removed as graduation requirements. One of these classes was financial literacy.
Financial Literacy, also called Personal Finance, is a class at LHS aimed at teaching students how to effectively and efficiently pay taxes, understand budgeting, and investing, among other things.
Since the board meeting, there have been mixed opinions on adding financial literacy as a graduation requirement. Some students and teachers agree with the proposal, however, others are against it.
The major benefit of requiring the class would include its ability to help students develop their life skills in basic finance. In contrast, its major downside could potentially entail scheduling complications for students.
“I think it’s a great class for everyone to have,” stated Katie Pettee, the financial literacy teacher. “I tell my classes all the time, I wish I had this class in high school.”
