This Saturday, May 7th, the LHS stadium and pool hosted Special Olympics athletes from all around the Denver Metro area to compete in swimming and track events.

“I think I [heard about this event] through my mom, so she must have heard about it from Littleton,” said junior Elizabeth Doty who volunteered at the event. Although many of the volunteers were outside of Littleton, parents, teachers and students were all present in mass to help out.

Athletes on the track had tents to rest under and a podium to present the winners, while the swimmers were able to rest in the South Gym and stand on the podium there. The event was completely free to attend and watch.

“I think it’s a good experience to volunteer and it’s fun to see them swim…we should host it again, I think it’s good for everyone and I would probably volunteer again,” said Doty.

Events ran from 8 AM-4 PM, and with beautiful weather it was a perfect day for this event. Although a little bit of wind put the tents by the stadium in danger, the event overall ran smoothly and gave athletes a chance to compete, win and be presented to spectators.
