From mediocre performances to ninth at state, the LHS Poms team has made incredible progress in their pride and skill. DeAnna Koepke and the support of new members greatly contributed to these changes.
Koepke is a language arts teacher and head coach to the LHS Poms. She has helped make the team so much better through hard work and repetition, pushing them to be better than they originally thought they could be.

“I started coaching here at LHS three years ago and before I did, the poms started with 18 or 19 girls on the team and they ended with five, and at that point, the former coach decided to step down. They had a rough season that season. They were super young and were trying to find their footing. The girls asked me to take the job since I had been the head cheer coach here for years.” Says Koepke.
When asked what techniques she used to help the team grow, she said,
”We drilled fundamentals to help them improve, and we really looked to the expertise on our team since a variety of girls had some great skills, so we could capitalize on that. We also started dancing at Starstruck Academy of Dance one day a week to grow even further.”
Not only has Koepke helped our team rise up the ranks, but she has been recognized for her outstanding coaching.
“I was voted by spirit coaches in Colorado to be the coach of the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games. Every single one of the all-state sports like volleyball, football, and basketball has coaches that are voted in their respective sports, and in June, there is an all-state game, and I’ll be coaching that team for a week.”
Thanks to Koepke as head coach, determination, and support from the teammates, the LHS Poms have grown to be more skilled, passionate, and prideful in their performances. Congratulations to the Poms for their incredible improvements and congratulations to Koepke, for pushing the girls on the team to be their best, and for her new coaching opportunity.
