Last weekend LHS Thespian Troupe 83 went to the 58th annual Thespian Conference, otherwise known as Thescon, in Denver. Each year thespians around the state come together at the Denver Convention Center to learn from professionals in the entertainment industry. For three days students went to workshops and performances to learn from their peers and grow their understanding of their specialization.
Over the course of three days, time is split into nine evenly split sessions. Everyone at the conference if they are older than 9th grade must participate in 1 to 2 Individual Events (IEs) which are performances or presentations. The categories range from acting and musical theater to everything technical. Everyone is judged by two qualified people who work or participate in the entertainment industry. And all the feedback received is useful for the future. Our very own Eliza Neff scored the highest out of LHS and was invited to a callback to be showcased on Mainstage in front of the rest of the conference.

Our Tech Challenge participants scored third out of the entire conference for outstanding performance in completing challenges in lighting, sound, costumes, construction, and management.
When students weren’t participating in IEs, they were spending their time in workshops taught by experts in their fields. There were workshops in all parts of technical theater as well as improv, choreography, acting, and singing classes.
At night all five thousand Thespians found food around the sixteenth street mall, visiting various local merchants and restaurants who were all very happy to have the extra business. Frequenting the downtown Denver area gave the students a great time to experience city life.
Thescon is an excellent experience for Thespians all over the state to come together and share their talents so that everyone can grow their skills. If Thescon sounds interesting, talk to Ms. L about becoming an LHS Thespian.
