As the school year begins to come to a close, the library is looking for new books. This year was the debut of the new library furniture. And next year we get the opportunity to have new books.
There are around 13,000 books currently in our school library. The librarians are looking for more and there is no set number for how many they’re willing to add. “I don’t always go by number but I’m hoping we can get around 500. That also means we might be replacing some, weed through the stacks. Get more relevant books,” says Ms. Donahue. The librarians are willing to look into the books that are recommended by students as well as teachers. And there are always ways to find books. “We look at reviews and also notice if a student requests the book and we don’t own it, then we put it on a list to purchase.”

Students are very excited to have this opportunity and are planning to take full advantage of it. When asked why Ashely Stewart, in 10th grade, said, “It would be cool if I could rent a book that I want.” That seems to be the general consensus of all the students. They’re excited to rent books that they want to read. Elliott Benson, also in 10th grade, is a student assistant in the library. He’s noticed that there are some series that are not complete. He has used the QR code to recommend the books so he can finish those series. Elie Anthony in 8th grade is going to suggest more historical fiction books. She wants to read books that she can relate to.

Students can scan QR and be directed to a google form that allows them to recommend a book for the library to get for next year. It’s a simple process. All the form asks is for the title, author, and why you think the book should be an addition to the library. You can fill out the form as many times as you like, to recommend all the books you want. You can find the QR codes around the library and on the TVs around the school.
