Little Women Review

“Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott is a classic story that most people today know about. With Greta Gerwig’s new take on the story it’s definitely not going to be forgotten about anytime soon. The new movie stars Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, Emma Watson as Meg March, Florence Pugh as Amy March, Eliza Scanlen as Beth March, Timothee Chalamet as Laurie, and Laura Dern as Mary March and was released on Christmas.

The original story has two books, one about the characters childhood and the second being about them as adults. The movie combines the two and does it in a way that keeps whoever is watching it invested in the movie regardless of whether or not they already know the story. The movie switches between childhood and adulthood points of view all throughout the movie and uses color schemes and settings to make it so that its follow along with whether or not its during childhood or adulthood without needing to state it each time it switches between the two. This is a really interesting way to tell the story but makes it so it doesn’t feel like it’s just another boring way of telling the story of “Little Women”. It’s unique in the way it tells the story which makes it even more exciting.

The cast of the movie also portrays the characters so well and has a chemistry that truly makes it feel like you are watching a group of sisters go through life together and makes it feel more intimate and like you are watching a real family. Because of this it feels relatable making the movie more emotional, which is always a good thing (no matter how crushed you may be after watching it).

Overall, the movie is incredible. It’s just the right amount of fluff and is such a feel good movie (for the most part, no spoilers!). It’s definitely recommended to go, especially with a group of some really good friends or family. It’s one of those movies that seeing it multiple times will never get boring.
