Abby Sawicki has got her eyes set on, well, everything this year. From publishing a book to leading the Marching Band, Abby Sawicki does it all.
Abby cannot wait for the school year to start and is excited to begin her fifth year at LHS, as she participated in the Early High School program. Abby is involved in many different extracurricular activities and has achieved a great deal throughout her high school career.
When asked what she is looking forward to this year, Abby responded, “Art and Band competitions, I think those are going to be fun. I am excited for the swim season, hanging out with my friends, and making good of the last year of high school,”
One of Abby’s greatest feats is becoming a published author.
“I started writing it in November of 2019, then I took a long break and came back to it when school shut down in the Spring of 2020,”
Abby has been reading and writing her entire life, and became infatuated with Historical Fiction, especially novels about the Mafia. Abby’s novel, “La Cosa Nostra” is set in 1950s New York.
“La Cosa Nostra means ‘our thing’ in Italian,”
After the main character is kidnapped and forced to join the mafia, he must undergo many challenges and confront his love for the mob bosses’ daughter.
“It is 92,000 words and I wrote it over the span of a year and a half. I couldn’t get it traditionally published but I did self publish it,”
Another one of Abby’s notable achievements was becoming a Drum Major in the Marching Band. Abby has been in the marching band for all four years of high school.
“Sophomore year I got section leader of my section, the Clarinet.”
This year holds a new set of responsibilities for Abby. For those of you that do not participate in Marching Band, Drum Majors are leaders during and after performances.
“During shows I am on the podium conducting, like giving tempo. Off the field there are a lot of external leadership aspects that go into it. I do a lot of organizing and coordinating and communicating between staff and the band. I make sure everyone is happy and gets what they need when there is drama and stuff going on,”
Abby is one of the three Drum Majors. “We are a great team and we work well together,”
As her last Marching Band season at Littleton intensifies, Abby continues to enjoy every moment on and off the field.
Abby is also this year’s NHS president. The National Honors Society is a club for academically motivated upperclassmen who are interested in giving back to the community. Abby’s role as president consists of many responsibilities.
“I am in charge of organizing community service projects and running meetings.” In NHS there are four committees, and Abby is also in charge of one group. The first project NHS is hosting is coming up! We have a Halloween Candy Drive on the 21st for kids in Elementary School,”
Swimming is also one of Abby’s passions. She has been swimming for Littleton for four years and made the Varsity team as a Sophomore. Abby specializes in the 500 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly events. This year, Abby has her eyes set on becoming a State Qualifier.
“My coach thinks I can make it to state in the 100 fly,”
With her persistence and determination, this may very well become a reality. Once the Swim Season begins, keep an eye out for a swim banner with Abby’s name on it!
Along with being an author, musician, and a swimmer, Abby is also an artist. She participates in Littleton’s art club and even owns a small business.
“I make little keychains and I sell them on Ebay. I started with bees, and now I have branched out to different animals,”
Throughout high school, Abby has made an effort to try new things and become very involved in the community of Littleton High School. She has done so by maintaining a diligent work ethic, but also through balance. When asked for any words of advice for underclassmen, Abby reflected:
“I try to do everything as much as I can and I think that sometimes I can overload myself. So to underclassmen facing the same thing, just pick a couple of things that will bring you the most joy instead of spreading yourself thin,”
By using this tip, you can really “do it all” like Abby Sawicki.
