This past weekend, mock trial attended a competition at the Arapahoe County Justice Center in Centennial. They faced tough competition from many other schools and performed strongly. Both the A and B teams earned more individual awards than any other team at the tournament.

On the A team, juniors Sofia Millner and Noah Orcutt won outstanding attorney and freshman Andrew Orcutt and junior Keen Schledorn-Mott won outstanding witness. On the B team, freshman Maddie Meir won outstanding attorney and sophomore Emma Roskelley won outstanding witness. Beyond these individual awards, the B team won an overall team professionalism award, and recieved many compliments from jurors.

“This was our first year of having an A team and B team so we had our best people one one team and I think we did really strong. It was really cool to see what everyone put together,” said Sofia Millner.

Millner had many great cross-examinations in the competition and even got shouted out by the jurors. She states that she is proud of the team’s progress, specifically their objections and examination questions.

“I think that we all improved a lot since our initial scrimmages and our questions really improved. I think we improved greatly as a team and individually. It was really fun,” said Millner.

In one round, the LHS A team had to go up against the LHS B team. Senior Grant Hawerlander explains why this was effective in demonstrating the strength of both teams.

“We have a really good both A team and B team, and I think the highlight was being able to go against our B team because they put up a really good fight,” said Hawerlander.

Hawerlander says that one of the reasons for the improvement of both teams is coachability.

“I’m proud of everybody on the team. Many people were able to take coaching on what we told them to fix, and changed it. I was proud of how well everybody took that information,” said Hawerlander.

This competition has proved that the future of LHS mock trial is bright. Great job mock trial!
