“I am not feeling nothing,” is one of my favorite quotes from the series that I believe accurately describes how I feel.
I have been reading this series since Aurora Rising was first released. I was immediately swept away by the world and characters that authors Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff created. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book since I finished Aurora Burning on the day it came out. And this last year has been a long one while I was waiting to find out what happened to my favorite people.
I felt a lot of emotions at the end of this book. The first one is sadness, as I have spent many years adoring this series and now it is over. However, I can’t say that the ending wasn’t satisfying. I predicted part of the plot of this story and I wasn’t let down. But there were still a ton of plot twists that pulled my heart out of my chest.
The Plot
Kauffman and Kristoff continued to weave the spectacular world and plot that we all know and love. The plot was slightly confusing at first but I caught on quickly. There were at least a dozen plot twists that the characters are thrown into. We also got to meet many new characters that are essential to the entire story, which I did not see coming. All around, this is the most complex addition to the series but it is also the best one.
The Characters
While I have gotten very attached to all the characters before this addition, several in particular stood out to me in this book.
Sadii – we met her in the second book. I have to say I did not like her when I first met her, but I really got to enjoy her in this book. A new side of Sadii was revealed in this book. She actually has a heart and becomes less hungry for blood. Meaning she becomes less like her father which we all know is a good thing. Meeting Squad 312 is the best thing that ever happened to her.
Nari – Nari is a new addition to the series starting at the beginning of this book. She grew on me as the story progressed. Her entire story completely shocked me in a way that has changed my life and obviously the lives of every being in the galaxy. She also caused my favorite character Zila, to have a heart.
Zila – for the whole first book Zila didn’t talk a lot and we didn’t get to know her very well. She grew in the second book when we learned about her traumatic past, making her the person she is now. But we got to see a new side of Zila in the final addition to this series. She has the most character development of any of the characters in the series. I don’t want to spoil anything however I can say that she is more important than any of us ever thought she could be when we first met her. While Auri may have the superpowers I personally believe Zila is the biggest hero of this story.
All in all, I have to say that this is a fantastic book. I am a sucker for happy endings and this finale is a great end. It didn’t end in the way I expected it to, but I’m not complaining because it still made me very happy for the characters. All of the characters got a good ending. Even people I didn’t expect to ever see again. The only sad part about this book is that it is over. I will always have a place for this series in my heart. And I highly suggest that all of you find a place for it too.
“We the legion, we the light, burning bright against the night. Squad 312 forever.”
