For the first time in over a decade, the LHS Poms team placed 3rd place, which means they will be heading to the State Tournament at the Denver coliseum on December 14th.
We spoke to coach DeAnna Koepke and captain Graycee Bohlen about their strategies for making it to state.
When asked about what had been done to improve since last year, Koepke said, “We have focused on building community, and our strength and skills. Skill building has been huge for us, and we have more technical skill this year than we’ve ever had.”
The poms team has also worked hard on spirit and morale. “ We also know that… it needs to be a place where people are happy to be.” (Koepke)
When we asked Bohlen about how she was feeling about the road to State, she said, “I felt like our motions were really good and we really just improved a lot in our overall technique.”
Bohlen also said she is “excited to continue growing, be with my team, and continue our positive vibes and energy. We’ve had a really good season, but I feel like for State we can really still grow, and I feel like we can get top ten.”
Overall, the poms have had an incredible year, especially with the huge accomplishment of going to the State Tournament.
