Prom 2023 has come and went with the week full of spirit days and a pep rally, commencing with the dance on Saturday. The dance was located at Wings Over the Rockies. The theme was Masquerade, however only a few people ended up wearing masks.
The fashion was eye-catching no matter where you looked. Dresses ranged from light blue, to black, with just about every color in the rainbow being represented across the hundreds of people at the event. Dresses were long and dragged across the floor throughout the night. Butterfly appliqués were a common theme, and lots of tulle as well. Many students also wore vintage dresses, thrifted or bought from a vintage retailer. Elbow-length gloves were worn as well to tie in vintage accessories. Overall, styles were diverse and reflected students’ personalities, rather than adhering to specific trends.
Meanwhile the most common look from the guys, was a black turtleneck underneath a jacket with a chain to add a little extra pop to the outfit.
The venue was decorated with bright lights all round, in a very open space. An outdoor patio was open which was perfect for when in need of a breath of fresh air. On the patio an ice cream sandwich truck was parked which served free ice cream sandwiches with freshly baked cookies, or just a scoop of ice cream. The cookie types were chocolate chip or snickerdoodle, and the ice cream flavors were cookies and cream or salted caramel.
“It’s looking fierce, and it’s better than I imagined it would be,” said junior Ben Davis.
Ben, who was one of the Junior Student Council representatives who helped in planning the entire event was blown away at how it turned out, and was glad all the hard work paid off.
Throughout the whole night everyone was waiting for the big moshpit to start and eventually it did and people were having fun dancing around with their friends to all their favorite songs.
“My favorite Prom song is definitely ‘The Wobble’” said Junior, Audrey Thomson
The all around energy and excitement in the air was undeniable and all the people were smiling and laughing with their friends having a great time outside of the school scene.
To round out the night the prom royalty and awards were given out as voted on by the attendees. Andrew Dupays and Jackson Palecki were awarded the best bromance, while Bella Houck and Eliza Neff were given best gal pals. The best couple was Dylan Hoover and John Sterling. For the individual awards, prom prince was Tristan Mills, while princess was Sophie Valentine. Prom Queen was given to Bella Houck and the Prom King was Simon Hamilton. It was a truly great moment for all to enjoy with the crowd going crazy as each winner stood above looking down from the staircase.
“I love the venue, this is a great place and there are a ton of kids here, that’s what it’s all about we’ve got great participation. It seems like a success,” said Principal Kathy Benton.
She along with everyone else in attendance loved the way it turned out and the whole night was one to remember.
