Rachel Leatherman is the new Regional Champion for Mountain Biking

Rachel Leatherman is a top Sophomore on the Mountain Biking Team, and she is now a points leader for all sophomores in the region. Last weekend, she won regionals, and she is now the Regional Champion for the Sophomore division. Rachel will be 1st at the startline at Mountain Biking State as she competes against 85 other girls.

Leatherman has been mountain biking since she was 5 years old, but she didn’t start competitively racing until her freshman year, for the LHS Mountain Biking Team, which is a mix of bikers from both LHS and Heritage High School. She really liked high school biking, especially races.

When asked about her favorite part of biking, she says, “I like racing, and how hard it is and how much you can push yourself.”

Along with the races, Leatherman emphasizes the importance of her team dynamic, and how much her team means to her.

Leatherman shines a light on her coaches, and says, “Our coaches push us as hard as we can, and it’s a really good atmosphere.” She feels that her coaches really influence the spirit of the team, and they help everyone become successful!

The LHS Mountain Biking Team has gotten 2nd place as a team in all of their races so far, due to their strong community and coaching!

Becoming the Regional Champion came with many challenges, but Leatherman found success in all of her races! Her season started off with winning in the Frisco Invitational, and it only went up from there. She got 2nd in Steamboat, 1st in Eagle, and a win in Nathrop to clinch the Champion title.

Mountain Biking State is October 18-20, but Leatherman is racing October 20th. She is overjoyed with her placement so far, and she is hoping to get top 5 in this race! Wishing the LHS Mountain Biking Team the best as they compete with other regions!
