It’s that time of year again when citizens all over Colorado are holding their breath until their favorite ski slopes open for the year. In recent years the slopes have been opening later and later due to a lack of snowfall. But this year there are more resorts opening early due to fresh snowfall and snow they’ve produced themselves.

2.1 million season passes have been sold so far this year due to resorts cutting their prices. And while skiing and snowboarding are very fun activities, we have to remember that this is the time that some people call, ‘the white ribbon of death’. This is when there are only a couple of runs and far too many people. Inevitably there will be more accidents this time of the season than later on.
Epic Mountain Gear as well as Snow Daze are offering sales on last year’s equipment to make room for new gear. If you’re newer to winter sports these older pieces of equipment could be perfect for you to get the hang of the sports.
More people this year have plans to take the weekend and rent a hotel room up in the mountains so they can get more done. More Coloradans are turning away from the sport due to the crazy lines for the lift and the driving time to get there. There are about seven million people from out of state who come to Colorado to ski every year. If you’re coming from the metro area, it’s suggested that you leave around six in the morning in order to get to the mountains before long lines immobilize your morning.
The skiing industry is one that dominates most of the winter months all over the country. People all over the country travel far and wide so they can get a couple of days of fun into their breaks from school and work. More resorts are opening every day around Colorado, so it’s not too late to join in the fun.
