Special Olympics Youth Summit

Friday the 25th, we got to visit CU Denver’s Special Olympic Youth Summit.

When we first got there, we said hello to the Broncos mascot “Miles,” the Nuggets Mascot, “Rocky,” and the Avalanche mascot “Bernie.” The mascots got the crowd excited and we did a chant that said, “Let’s CU Include!”

The Special Olympics put together a goodie bag with a new t-shirt, sunglasses, socks, a mini football, and pom-poms to celebrate the experience.

While we were there, we made “I Am” posters where we wrote kind things about ourselves to harness positivity and practice positive self-talk.

Our other friends, Reece and Axel were there working with the Youth Activation Committee for the Special Olympics, Reece gave a speech about our Unified sports and activities here at LHS. She also talked about the importance of our Unified teams, and how we get to to have fun with our teammates to feel included with friends and partners.

After the speech, we went outside, played games, and went on to the sensory bus, which had a cool digital display of fish that caught our eye. We also got to meet a cute dog on the bus.

The Youth Summit also had face paint, which allowed for fun bonding time between partners, with carnival games and a fun dunk tank that drops cotton balls over your head.

We had so much fun and are glad we got to experience the Special Olympics Youth Summit.
