On Thursday, November 18, our very own LHS Speech and Debate team was recognized as a top chapter of the nation. This is an enormous honor and only 103 schools across the country have been selected by the National Speech and Debate Association out of 4,000 high schools.

This year, just like last year, the Speech and Debate competitions are virtual, which can pose some challenges. For the first tournament, Mr. Saliman, the club advisor, wanted everyone to come to the school and compete over Zoom altogether. It was a nice sentiment because part of the fun during tournaments is spending time with the team. However, Zoom is blocked on the school wifi, so many students had trouble logging onto their competitions.

Despite all of these challenges, the team has shown hard work and dedication to their work in the club, earning them this prestigious honor.

“I think people really rose to the challenge…and everyone was working so hard,” said senior and captain Eliana Joy Volin.

Cheer on our fellow Lions as they continue to work hard through the rest of their season.
