The Amazon Exclusive TV Series ‘The Boys’ changes how superheroes are depicted in media

Recently, companies like Marvel and DC are releasing more and more films about strong superheroes overcoming the odds and beating the bad guys. This was intended to have a good message about how the good always beats the bad.

However, this narrative has become obsolete and repetitive.

Disney and the MCU are constantly rushing out dozens of movies with the same message over and over, and there’s a lack of heart and passion. Frankly, it’s boring.

People started to realize this issue and decided to make their own show that takes a more real and satirical approach to this issue and the outcome became one of the most talked about shows in recent years. This show is called The Boys and is an Amazon Prime Original.

Garth Ennis, a British writer (who had worked on DC projects beforehand), wanted to add a unique spin to this conundrum, and in 2006 made his own comic series that added a much darker, more realized, and satirical take to the world of superheroes called, The Boys.

After the comic series ended in 2012, the same director of the hit TV show Invincible Eric Kripke decided to pick up the series again and turn it into its own TV show. The show is very vulgar and has really extreme content and topics. This show is about disturbed and awful people who do really bad things to themselves and each other.

While this show sounds like another edgy show that says “the world sucks,’ it’s actually more than that. It references the issues with pop culture, celebritism, idolism, and corporate corruption. It treats the superheroes like products and commodifies them. The show isn’t about the powers and the superheroes teaming up; its about the marketability of the superheroes and their social lives.

It’s very different, and you never know what is going to happen in the next scene. The side plots and the buildup to the end of the season make you want to binge the whole show.

If you can get past the tough subject matter, I highly recommend watching The Boys on Amazon Prime for a unique and memorable experience.
