The boy’s varsity soccer team has decided to make the bold decision to shave their heads in solidarity with their teammate, Roman Chojnacki, whose grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. Proving that teamwork is not exclusive to the field and that the foundations of a great team comes from the commitment and compassion of its players. “I know that my team has my back, and there’s definitely more of a sense of brotherhood than there has been in the previous years,” said Chojnacki.

Through this choice, the soccer team has shown that they are every bit as dedicated to each other as they are to their sport. One could argue that the unity of a team during hard times is what drives success and can make the difference between a decent season and an astounding one. “The team is one big family, one of the concerns I had when I shaved my head was backlash from them,” said Chojnacki.

Although not every member of the team shaved their heads, there is unanimous support for Chojnacki and his family from all. The captains in particular seemed to get the ball rolling and were some of the loudest advocates for Chojnacki and his grandmother. “When I told the captains they really stepped up and brought the team together,” said Chojnacki.

Chojnacki found himself quite surprised with the amazing turnout and support he received from his teammates. People he didn’t expect to participate shaved their heads, and that made quite the impact on him and his family. “I got a really good result in comparison to what I thought I’d get, some of the guys like Ryan and Adrian I’ve been close with, but Charlie and others coming out and shaving their heads that night was a really big deal for me,” said Chojnacki.

In addition to shaving their heads, the varsity soccer team also held a ceremony for her during their first home game which seemed to make quite the impact. “My grandma goes to all the games, and we did a ceremony for her during our first home game after her first operation. Each player on the team handed her a flower and then I handed her a bunch at the very end,” said Chojnacki.

Chojnacki’s grandmother seems to be one of the soccer team’s biggest supporters, so honoring her was of no question to the team.

On the behalf of the Littleton High School student body, we will send nothing but support and prayers their way and wish the Chojacki family the absolute best.
