Taylor Swift is a global pop icon who has proven her worth as a songwriting genius! She is one of the most listened-to artists of all time, and her life is closely followed by the media. In the past couple of years, she has proven that she is bejeweled and a mastermind with her record-breaking Eras Tour and continuing to release albums, whether they are re-recordings or brand new. She never seems to disappoint fans, and even non-swifties can admit that at least a few of her songs are good. Taylor has a few masterpieces in her discography, a song that just has that wow factor. Here are a few that I think have that wow factor.
“Love Story”
The retelling of Shakespeare’s classic romance, Romeo and Juliet, but with a happy ending. This song has Swifties belting out the lyrics whenever it comes on. It is the song that a boyfriend would propose to his girlfriend during the line “Marry me Juliet” in the middle of an Eras Tour concert. It is also one of her most popular and known songs with its lyrics being one of the most searched on Google. “Love Story” is true magic!
“Mean”
This song has a very folky feel, making it stand out compared to the rest of the songs on “Speak Now”. The lyrics also speak out to anyone who has ever been bullied or doubted in their life. I really like the metaphors and language in the lyrics; the way she calls out her haters is done beautifully. I honestly think this song is really underrated and it deserves some more love. So please listen to it to see what I mean!
“Clean”
The cool thing about this song is that the entirety of it is a metaphor. “Clean” describes the feeling after getting out of a difficult situation in life. The lyrics describe being caught in a rainstorm to clean yourself of that situation, or what she calls “the drought”. One very interesting thing about this song is that the music sounds like raindrops, which adds to the feeling of the entire song being a metaphor. The lyrics are easy to understand when listening to it, so it is a good song to belt out in the car.
“Our Song”
How can a fifteen-year-old girl write a song this good? Whenever I listen to this song, an instant smile goes on my face. This is the kind of song that you would listen to to go dancing in a field full of wildflowers. Besides the happy tone of this song, the lyrics make a big impact too. The entire song rhymes, making it flow together nicely, and has tons of imagery that makes you feel like you are viewing the song and not just listening to it.
“All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)”
If you have ever listened to this song, you would know the reason why I would include it in this list. This is the masterpiece of the masterpiece list. I call “All Too Well” the song where Taylor Swift matured, because all of a sudden we see emotional depth that has never been in any of her songs before. It is also almost instantly recognizable since it has a guitar riff opening like no other. You might be thinking that ten minutes is a really long time, but I promise you that it is worth it!
“Champagne Problems”
Finally, we have “Champagne Problems”. Overall, this song is a pretty ballad. It describes breaking someone’s heart and going through the grief of doing so. I love how each verse of the song is different and how poetic she made it. This is also what I believe is one of her best songs vocally. With the melody and the soft piano playing in the background, you will fall in love with Taylor’s voice.
