Is the clock running out on Tik Tok? Teenagers all over the world are infatuated with the popular social media app. But the question remains: is the app still worth downloading?
Video making social media apps became highly popular in 2013 when Vine was created. After Vine was terminated in 2016, Musical.ly became the prime video-making social media app introducing lip-syncing and dances. Today, the app combining these challenges, comedy acts, and dances is Tik Tok.
When you open Tik Tok you are introduced to a variety of short video clips. The platform analyzes each video and tracks the users’ app activity so it can provide a never-ending stream of videos to captivate your attention. Along with watching Tik Toks, the app also gives you the option to become a “TikToker” yourself and potentially become “TikTok Famous”. Users stand in front of a camera, film videos, and hope to gain a following. However, TikTok users also maintain the option to simply watch the videos others create. If standing in front of a camera for millions to see on their “For You Page” is not your thing, you can still spend hours scrolling through watching these short videos.
Within the past year though, the Tik Tok popularity has been declining. What’s more, GoogleTrends predicts that the worst is yet to come. It seem that another teenage fad has reached its end.
Teenagers will always look for what’s new and exciting when it comes to social media, and until recently it seems they got their fix with Tik Tok. But, is it worth your time to download the app and spend so many hours on it? Our answer is no. As the hype is dying down, it’s becoming ever clearer that TikTok simply isn’t worth the time.
