‘The Wedding Singer’ is a must-see musical

This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, LHS Thespians will be putting on the musical “The Wedding Singer”.

The story follows two lead characters, Robbie Hart, played by senior Asher Morrisroe, and Julia Sullivan, played by senior Bella Houck, as they navigate their way through love, romance, relationships, heartbreak, and the struggles of early adulthood. The show takes place in the 1980s, which is reflected in costume choices and set design.

Robbie Hart sings at weddings with his two other band members, Sammy and George. Julia Sullivan is a waitress at weddings and she quickly befriends Robbie.

Morrisroe’s performance as Robbie is exceptional, capturing every single aspect of Robbie’s dynamic character along his journey.

Houck perfectly embodies Julia Sullivan, revealing Julia’s hopeless romantic personality and the inner confusion that she has to decipher throughout the musical.

The stuck-up boyfriend of Julia, Glen Guglia, is played by senior Luke Dumoulin, who stirs the audience with a performance so accurate to the character that you, as an audience member, can physically feel Glen’s narcissism.

The show immerses the audience in the story with an array of witty jokes and catchy songs.

It isn’t only the actors that do an incredible job putting on this production, both the lights crew and stage crew aid immensely in setting the mood for every single scene.

Lights change based on whether a character feels angry, sad, happy, proud, etc. Lighting even switches multiple times during scenes to exhibit the inner conflict the characters had with their feelings.

Props, costumes, and settings were all intentionally chosen to help the story flow and create a sense of reality for the audience that’s difficult to find in most shows.

Music throughout the musical is produced by the pit, which plays for the full two hours, working in tandem with the lights and stage crews to set the scene and engage the audience.

Overall, Thespians did an amazing job with their production of “The Wedding Singer” and if you’re looking for something to do over this long weekend, you should absolutely go see the show and experience the many twists and turns of this captivating love story.
