Tyler Griffin Takes on State Tennis

Sophomore Tyler Griffin, who was the varsity singles 3, managed to qualify for the state tournament after a successful season. He competed at the state tournament on Thursday, October 17 in Pueblo.

He qualified following a win over Evergreen high school in the regional tournament a week prior. However, he fell to Colorado Academy in the regional final. Despite this, he still earned a spot at the state tournament.

In the first round, Griffin faced off against Sam Elkenberry of George Washington high school, who won both sets to take the match.

Despite this Griffin had a lot of takeaways from the season.

“The season went very well and I really enjoyed it even through the ups and downs. My biggest takeaway was to always remain calm especially when you’re losing the set,” said Griffin.

With this season being just his second year of high school tennis, Griffin looks to improve through his next two years, and take what he learned from his trip to the state tournament as a learning experience for what it takes to make it to the top of the tennis scene.
