Valentine’s Day is known for its red roses, boxes of chocolates, and giant teddy bears holding hearts. Although recently, people have been speculating that this holiday is only for couples and being able to show PDA.

On the other hand, people have just been using this holiday to show their affection to everyone in their life like friends and family, making it seem like it doesn’t necessarily have to be about couples only.

Commercialized Valentine’s Day is no doubt impractical. Getting a giant bear that will never fit anywhere in your house or getting a balloon that will most likely pop before the day ends is not what people want from Valentine’s Day.

Yet this is what has been shoved down the masses’ throats as they walk into any store seeing the rows of red a month before the actual holiday. Let’s be honest, you would much rather just spend time with your relationships than with cheap gifts from Walmart. There is a right way to do Valentine’s Day and there is a cheesy way.

Recently, Valentine’s Day has started to be less about the bears and chocolate and more about spending time with the people you love. And it doesn’t just have to be with your significant other. Many friend groups have their own parties just to celebrate each other.

Having a day to bring people together should not be looked down upon. I for one am all for it. Couples going out and celebrating Valentine’s Day is cute and fun for those involved in a relationship.

To go out and have dinner, get flowers besides roses, and give your significant other a gift they actually want that’s not a 5-dollar bear is fun, and shouldn’t be criticized if done right. Valentine’s Day is a good holiday that many people enjoy. We just need to evolve it in a way that makes it less commercial.
