October 7, volleyball lost in a well-fought game ending with the Green Mountain Rams taking both the first and third sets to win the match.

The Rams had tough defense, leaving the Lions struggling to keep up in the first set. After a Littleton timeout, the Lions came back with more energy, but lost the set 14-25.

Littleton picked up the intensity in the second set, starting off ahead 5-2. Senior Addie Bouck helped maintain the lead with several well placed spikes and great blocks. The Lions kept the energy high with many great hustle plays to counter the Ram defense.

Senior Lauren Law focused on the next hit

The Rams chased the Lions for the entire set, staying one point behind after they brought the score to a tie at 18-18. Seniors Lauren Law and Bre McDowell had kill shots that kept Littleton ahead. After several line calls and double hits called on the Rams, the opponent called a timeout. Coming back from the timeout, the Rams brought the score to 24-24, making the crowd hold their breath until Law placed the winning shot for the set.

“As a team we always get that one spark of energy that really motivates us…I definitely think that we had a lot more scrappiness and hustle to get to the ball to just get [the ball] up which helped our team out a lot this game,” said junior Skylar Del Duka.

Sophomore Malea Jones stood out in diving for the ball and pushing her teammates to keep the momentum.

“I think our team started talking to each other more and we got more energy and we got hyped because we all wanted [the win], so everyone was just kind of sacrificing for that, we all just really wanted that, ” said sophomore Malea Jones.

The third set continued with diminished energy from the Lions, ending in a loss 10-22.

“Our goal for the next game is to make sure that we don’t make the same mistakes, we don’t ponder the same mistakes, we don’t congratulate the same mistakes either…[we need to] make sure we understand what the mistake is and fix it,” said Del Duca.

The game was the Littleton volleyball program’s signature “Pink Night” to raise awareness and money for breast cancer. All players wore pink jerseys, and players ran a bake sale to raise money for The Crown and Glory Project.

The Crown and Glory Project, founded by Gloria Davis, provides free haircuts to women affected by breast cancer. The organization’s aim is to help women feel that “they chose the haircut, not that the haircut chose them.”
