Volleyball fights hard in first home game

Thursday night, girls volleyball lost to Conifer. Littleton lost the first two matches 17-25 and 15-25. The Lions fought hard in the final match, catching up to a 23-24 score before Conifer sealed their lead.

The first two matches saw Littleton fight to overcome small mistakes that dug the team a hole. With much of the season ahead, senior leaders have many ideas on what to work on.

“We really need to work on getting our serves in and we need to work on the serve-receive. We need to focus on paying attention to who we are supposed to cover as blockers and we need to pass before we can set and hit,” said senior Lauren Law.

After the first two matches, Littleton called several time outs in the third, coming back on the court each time with more energy.

“We just got out of our heads during those time outs and it helped us keep up our energy and keep a positive mindset,” said Law.

Focusing on attitude helps senior Addie Bouck guide the team through eye contact and clear communication.

“We focus on being loud, because being loud and being a presence on the court is a big deal in volleyball, so in practice we try to be really loud and really excited, which is sometimes hard to do. But when we focus on that and we focus on having fun rather than getting so competitive we also play well. It’s a big mindset thing honestly, ” said Bouck.

Alongside senior leaders, juniors like Allison Groustra assisted in keeping the team fighting hard.

“[We need] more team bonding and more playing as a team than as individuals; picking ourselves up after we make mistakes,” said Groustra.

LHS was very active and confident in the third match after making a few changes, boding well for the upcoming season.

“To improve…instead of seeing winning as our goal we should have working together and working hard as our main goals because when we do that we play really well,” said Bouck.

The Lions play next on Tuesday September 17 for their second home game.
