Watching movies can be a very relaxing option for a stressful night. Yet, sometimes having to find and agree on a movie can be even more stressful. So, we compiled a list to make those movie nights easier!
Cry:
About Time– A hit film starring Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAddams which explores the idea of time travel by including a romantic love story. When Tim, the main character, discovers he can time travel at the age of 21, he starts to explores his newfound powers to see if he can get a girlfriend. Yet these goal of his is actually much harder than he thinks. You can watch this on Netflix, Prime Video or Amazon.
My Old Ass– Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella collab in one of the best films of the century. The main character Elliott thinks she knows everything about herself, yet her future self comes to tell her she in fact does not. This short, yet impactful movie will make you tear up so hard, yet I think everyone should watch it, as it is an amazing film.
The Imitation Game– Staring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, The Imitation Game is based on the real life story of the world famous mathematical genius, Alan Turing and the breaking of the enigma machine. This heartfelt story details the private life of Turing and the ongoing war, World War 2. This movie is an absolute perfect one and should totally be watched by everyone.
But I’m a Cheerleader– This 1999 coming of age film staring Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall details a the journey of a young girl, Megan, and her time a conversion therapy camp due to her parents request. Megan begins the movie as a perfect all-American girl. She is a cheerleader with a boyfriend and is seemingly perfect. Yet her parents and friends start noticing peculiar things about her behavior. She never seems to like kissing her boyfriend, she only has pictures of girls in her locker and she is overly friendly with her teammates. Yet, when her parents force her to go to the camp she is super confused as she doesn’t think, or know, that she is gay. This is a super outstanding movie detailing the queer community and the absurd hatred it faces.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower– This world famous movie is based on the novel written by Stephen Chbosky, and stars Logan Lerman and Emma Watson. Freshman 15-year-old Charlie is a wallflower. He doesn’t fit in with any of his classmates, nor does he try to. The movie details his coping with the suicide of his best friend, his first love and his overwhelming mental illness. When Charlie decides to go to a school football game, he meets two seniors, Sam and Patrick, who welcome him to their lives and show him what high school should be like.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 days– Starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey this 2003 movie details a 10 day relationship between Benjamin Barry and Andie Anderson. Barry is an elite advertising executive who is competing for a big campaign with 2 of his co-workers. He makes a deal that he can make a woman of their choosing fall in love with him in 10 days. Anderson is a journalist who creates an article entailed “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days” trying anything and everything she can do to make Barry break up with her. Yet both of their plans go unexpectedly, watch to find out!
Billy Madison– Billy Madison, portrayed by Adam Sandler, is a 27-year-old who is basically an idiot who is super immature. His dad owns a hotel empire, and gets extremely rich from this enterprise. His dad says that he can not inherit his company if Madison keeps up his extremely lazy actions. So, he makes Madison repeat all grades 1-12 again, yet his rival Eric Gordon tries to stop him throughout the process.
Easy A– Starring Emma Stone, Easy A is a film based on the classic Nathaniel Hawthorn book, The Scarlett Letter. Olive Pendergast becomes enveloped in huge rumors after telling her best friend Rhiannon one white lie about a night with a college boy. When the rumors spread, the story changes by large amounts. Soon, people from all over the school ask Olive for her help to make themselves seem cooler and more mature. Eventually Pendergast accepts their rumors and tries to own it: in Scarlett Letter fashion, she puts red A’s on all of her clothes. Airplane– This movie from 1980 is an absolute classic. Based on the 1957 film Zero Hour!, this movie is outright hilarious. The film follows the sorrowful ex- fighter pilot in World War 2, Ted Striker, and his old flame & a flight attendant, Elaine Dickinson. Striker boards a flight from LA to Chicago, yet comes face-to-face with severe food poisoning from the plane food. The rest of the movie details the super chaotic flight involving so many funny jokes referenced commonly in pop culture including,”I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.”
Bridesmaids– Staring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph, this hilarious film is guaranteed to make you laugh. When Annie finds out that her life long best friend, Lillian, is engaged she dives into the role as her maid of honor. Yet, when Lillian introduces Annie to her bridesmaid group, she meets Helen, Lillian’s new, beautiful and extremely rich friend. Annie instantly is overcome with jealousy and leads her down even more of a spiral in her already complicated life.

The Princess Diaries– The absolute classic, and favorite childhood movie starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, this movie is the cutest. Mia Thermopolis is an extremely average girl. She loves art, and is a little bit of a nerd. She pretty much is invisible to everyone at school except for her best friend Lilly and her older brother Michael. When Thermopolis’ estranged grandmother comes in out of the blue nd informs her that she is the heir to the country of Genovia, Mia’s whole life is flipped upside down. Can she still be a normal teenager and a princess?
Wedding Crashers– Best friends John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey (Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn) spend their days crashing weddings to pick up many women. Yet one day they crash the wedding of the daughter of the Treasury Secretary. Instead of the usual flings they have, they become enveloped in the family’s lives and have to figure out how to get out, but instead they fall in love.
Julie & Julia– Based on two true stories the movie follows Julie Powell (Amy Adams), a young blogger who is determined on following all of Julia Child’s (Meryl Streep) cooking techniques. While they are separated by time, the women share their common passion for food and their lives intertwine. The movie goes back and forth between the women and their success and failures as women and as chefs.
Cry-Baby– A movie musical starring Johnny Depp and Ricki Lake, parodies the many famous teen musicals in the world. The movie is based in Baltimore in the 1950s and follows the love story of the town “bad-boy” Cry-Baby and the perfectly good girl, Allison. The community is divided into two groups, as commonly seen in different media. The Drapes are the rebel group of teens including the main character, Cry-Baby. Allison is the daughter of prominent Squares, or the good people in society, and betrays her family when she joins Cry-Baby on the bad side. Rushmore– This famous Wes Anderson film starring Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray shows the live of a 10th grade boy, Max, at his private school, Rushmore. While Max is failing this classes, he constantly participates in clubs and organizes plays and activities. He befriends a local factory magnate, Blume, and falls for his recently widows teacher, Ms. Cross. When he gets expelled to do a scheme, he tries to bring his old Rushmore style to the local high school. When he gets to the school, a fellow student, Margaret tries to win over his friendship. Yet, Max wants to pursue the unattainable Ms. Cross who he is still in love with. When he finds out that his friend Blume is also in love with her, they begin a fight which continues for a large portion of the movie.
