On December 5, 2019 Littleton High School Vocal Department performed their Winter Concert. The students have been preparing for months to show their talents and abilities to friends, family, faculty, and members of the community. The concert showcased a variety of Christmas songs, Hanukkah songs, and other winter medleys
The performance began with a song called “Eatnemen Vuelie” which combined all of the different choirs. This song is a folk melody and the opening number of the Disney animated feature “Frozen”. This song is inspired by indigenous Saami and Norweigen culture.
“We have some very talented students here at LHS and they come in and they give it 100% in every single day”
CHORAL DIRECTOR, AIMEE TAYLOR
The next group to perform was The Fourteeners, which yes, they included fourteen singers in this Vocal Jazz group. They performed a jazz ballad of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. Not only did this group do an exceptional job singing a jazz ballad, but they performed this piece acapella. Although they are a small choir, this group did a terrific job on performing a holiday classic.
“Getting up in front of people and sharing my talent with people is my favorite part of performing”
JUNIOR, CARTER NOVINGER
Women’s Ensemble performed two songs, “The Bells” and “Mary Did You Know”. “The Bells” was full of energy and excitement in the rhythm. The next song they performed, “Mary Did You Know” was a take on the beautiful song which Aimee Taylor, the choral director added “was made popular again by Pentatonix”. The ensemble used the same arrangements as the acapella band does on this piece. The choir added an incredible element to the performance by adding sign language into the performance. Janessa Kalu, a student at LHS had previously known the signs to this song and was willing to teach the rest of the members of the choir.
The concert choir, which includes over fifty Littleton students performed three songs “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, “My Christmas Tree” (from Home Alone 2), and “Light”. Ms. Taylor said, “we had to add another song because they worked so hard they did such an amazing job” about the concert choir and how well they have been doing this past year.
The next performance and in my opinion the most iconic performance of the night was Chordially Yours and Manwich choirs. They performed “12 Days of Christmas” with a hilarious spin. The choir was energetic and full of energy to bring this performance to life. They were wearing holiday attire and adding fun dance moves into the show.
The talented group of ladies, the Syrens performed two songs “Hanukkah Blessings” and “A Choral Flourish”. The first song “Hanukkah Blessings” was started with a Hanukkah prayer. The song itself was performed in Hebrew and a beautiful melody. “A Choral Flourish” was a song full of wonderful contrast in voices. “Plaudite, plaudite, clap your hands. Psallite, psallite, play your strings” was a line repeated throughout the song to bring excitement and add more elements in the performance.
“Being up on stage with amazing women that’s also bright is such a fun positive experience”
JUNIOR, ELI MORGAN
Troubadours also performed a selection of three songs “Veni, Veni, Emmanuel”, “Season of Light”, and “Good King Kong Looked Out.” Throughout this performance, the group performed well with beautiful melodies. In their third and final piece, “Good King Kong Looked Out” the group was doing movements to go along with the song such as booping their noses or tugging their ears. During the song, the chorus members blew kazoos to add some fun!
“My favorite part of being up there is being with my friends”
SENIOR, CONNAR TUBBERGEN
The last and final performance of the night was all the choirs combined once again to end the show. They all gathered together to sing a song called “Winter Dreams”. This song gave you the idea that a hundred and fifty snowflakes were singing before you. This performance also included students who play string instruments to add something special to the final song.
All members of all seven choirs did an exceptional job and their hard work over the past few months. In the next few months, the LHS performing arts has many events coming up. Keep your eye out for the next performance and watch these students showcase their talent!
